Our tamariki wowed the judges with their flawless performance on Sunday 21st November at the Horncastle Arena. Our senior Kapa Haka Group performed with mana and showed Excellence on the stage - we are so proud of them all!
Avonhead School competed in the annual Tūhono Kapa Haka Competition beating five other schools in the finals. Avonhead School students were incredible and performed with intensity and focus winning first place in the haka, first place in waiata aringa, first place in waiata tira, best female leader (Eliana Tay), best female whakamihi, best male leader (Josh Parmenter), and took out the 'First Place Overall'.
Behind every great group is an awesome team of tutors and teachers who work hard behind the scenes every week with our students. We would like to extend a special thanks to Matua Steve and Bonnie, our kapa Haka tutors, for all their mahi, expert tuition and guidance every week, we feel very honoured to have you working with us and our tamariki. We would also like thank our amazing kaiako (teachers), who have supported and worked alongside our Kapa Haka group throughout the year; Mrs Moore, Mrs Lane and Ms deBeus, you are all amazing! Special mention also must go to Mrs Lane for all the sewing of extra costumes and organisation leading up to the competition also.
It is moments like these that confirm that work + effort equals reward and why Avonhead School is an incredible school to be a part of.
