Avonhead School would like to extend a huge mihi to our new Kapa Haka tutor Matua Steve. We are very excited and honoured to have him join our Avonhead Whānau one morning a week.

Last year we were fortunate to have Whāea Ana mentor our Kapa Haka groups during the year. Under her wonderful guidance we prepared our Senior Kapa Haka Group for the Christchurch Schools' Cultural Festival started a Junior Kapa Haka Group too. Unfortunately, she was unable to continue this year as she is expecting a baby soon.

Fortunately for us, we were put in touch with Matua Steve who is a highly skilled Kapa Haka Tutor in many schools around Christchurch. We are very excited to have him join our Avonhead Whānau and grow our Kapa Haka group further under his expert leadership. Unfortunately, because he is so busy, we are only able to get him for our Senior Kapa Haka Group at this stage, but will look for opportunities to start up our junior group later in the year if possible.

We are also looking forward to taking part for the first time, in a the Christchurch Kapa Haka Competitions for our senior students. Our Senior Kapa Haka Group are really focused and working hard towards learning a new programme this year under Matua Steve's expertise!
