Pasifika Fono Night

AGHS —

We held our fono night on Thursday 24 June from 6.30pm in the large theatre and had Siatua Evalu from the Ministry of Education as our guest speaker. He spoke about the Pasifika Education Plan and encouraged our families to ensure their voices were heard in implementing the action points across the next ten years the plan covers.

We had student performances throughout the evening with different groups of students collaborating to perform and they were fantastic to watch.

Our Acting Principal, Tanya Clegg, spoke about how we as a school appreciate what the Pasifika students bring with them and how we value our Pasifika staff and all that they do. Ms McDowell, Deputy Principal advertised the holiday programmes on offer by Ara and the University of Canterbury in the July term break as these are excellent opportunities to gather with other Pasifika students, get support with school work, do fun activities, and celebrate culture.

The night was run by the students and finished with a shared meal in our cafeteria. We had fabulous support from our families and warmly encourage all to attend these celebration evenings. Be sure to look out for our fono in Term 3 and come along!
