Tree planting with Eco-Action Trust

On Sunday August 30th a number of students from the Environment Council took part in the final tree planting session of this year, as a part of Eco-Action Trust. It was finally warm and sunny – a distinct difference from the frosts of last time! We helped to plant 110 Carex Secta / pūrei which provide a great habitat for pukeko and paradise shelduck nests.

Our students have taken part in four planting sessions over the last few months, helping to plant approximately 5000 native trees and shrubs, which provide an important habitat for our native birds. It has been great to see so many students out there getting their hands (and shoes!) dirty and joining in – from our school and the other 10 schools in the scheme. The atmosphere is always fantastic. A huge thank you to all of the students involved, especially those who have been to all of the planting sessions – and big pat on the back to the parents who turn up and get stuck in too.

We’ll see you again next season, when we will be planting 10,000 plants, including those growing in our own nursery!
