End of Year Arrangements

AGHS —

Important dates and arrangements for your daughter are shown below.

PRIZEGIVING /GRADUATION

This year we are combining the Senior Prizegiving and Year 13 Graduation in one ceremony. This important event takes place on Wednesday 11 November at 7.00pm in Te Poutini (our large theatre). All Year 11 and Year 12 prize winners and all Year 13 students are required to attend. All students need to report to their assembly point by 6:30pm.

We are able to accommodate two family members for each Year 11 and 12 prizewinner or Year 13 student.

Students will be issued entry tickets for two family members at the final prizegiving practice on Tuesday 10 November. Please advise your daughter if you do not require the two allocated tickets.

Students attending this event must wear full and correct winter uniform (old uniform) or new uniform. Thank you for ensuring that your daughter’s uniform is clean and well-presented.

NCEA EXAMINATIONS

NCEA examinations begin on Monday 16 November. Examination entry slips which are essential for entry to examination rooms, will be issued at the year level final assembly on Tuesday 10 November. Students should also have an ID card.

Please check that your daughter knows the date and time of her examinations and arrives at school in plenty of time. Morning exams begin at 9.30am. Afternoon exams begin at 2.00pm.

All students must wear full correct uniform to their examinations.

SENIOR LEADERSHIP DAY

Year 12 students are to report to school at 8.30am on Monday 7 December. The Leadership Day will run from 8.30am until 1pm. Students are to wear mufti – comfortable clothing, gym footwear. It is expected that all girls returning for Year 13 in 2020 will attend. Interviews for some of the key 2020 leadership positions will be held on Wednesday 9 December 2020. ______________________________

Our senior students are now moving into external examination period and will no longer attending normal classes. There are two matters to advise you of.

Early finish to Mondays and Tuesdays.

In a move to align with Shirley Boys’ High School, we will be adjusting our timetable slightly on Mondays and Tuesdays only until the end of the year. Lunchtimes on Mondays and Tuesdays will be 15 minutes shorter and school will end at 2.45pm. We have arranged for the school bus services to leave earlier on those days.

Teacher Only Day on Thursday 19 November

All secondary schools in the Canterbury region have a Teacher Only Day next Thursday 19 November for teachers to work through the proposed changes to NCEA. This is the first of a series of days provided for this purpose, that will occur over the next three years. The original date set for this work was postponed because of Covid restrictions. School will not be open for junior students on 19 November but NCEA external examinations for senior students will continue on this day.
