Digital Technology

AGHS —

Canterbury Programming Competition

Two Avonside students, Milly Carson and Jorja Baigent, (year 10) participated in the Canterbury Programming Competition held at the University of Canterbury on Saturday 3 July. This competition required students to program using the text-based language of Python. The girls competed with 36 teams from 16 different schools, approximately 90 students in total.  They completed 13 increasingly difficult problems over 3 hours. The pizza afterwards was thoroughly enjoyed! A big thanks for Michael Carson who accompanied the girls.

Visit by Maree Palmer to the Year 10 Digital technology class

Maree Palmer was one of our earthquake students. She went on to the University of Canterbury to study computer science and now works in the industry. A couple of weeks ago she gave up her time to come and talk to the Year 10 digital technology class. They learnt lots and appreciated her talking about life at university and what a career in digital technology could look like. Both the class and she were excited to discover they had used an app that she had help program.
