Māpuna Library’s Lockdown Fun

AGHS —

Māpuna Library’s staff have been archiving!

During this lockdown what have the librarians been up to you might be wondering? Māpuna Library’s staff have been busy digitalising and cataloguing Avonside Girls’ High School’s archives.

We’ve taken some 500 digitally scanned photos ranging from 1919 – 1970s and been adding them to our library management system. It’s truly been a team effort as Mrs Wright grabbed the archiving boxes, filled with the physical photos as well as the a few old school magazines just before lockdown, and together the library staff have been adding each photograph individually along with archival information using the school magazines to identify students and add additional information about the events presented in the photos. It’s been a great technological collaboration using Facebook messenger and video calls to work together bringing Avonside’s historical archives into the present day, making history available to Old Girls and their families to view from a slowly growing online portal.
