International Department Update

AGHS —

We have been spending the winter months supporting the community. The students from Avonside Girls’ and Shirley Boys' supported the Mazda NZ and Make A Wish Foundation Paper Crane Project. This project invited the community to create origami cranes to place on the Children’s Peace Monument in Hiroshima’s Peace Memorial Park. According to Japanese tradition, folding 1,000 paper cranes gives you a chance to make one special wish come true. The joint initiative helped Make A Wish grant wishes to Kiwi children with Mazda NZ donating $1000 to Make A Wish New Zealand for every thousand cranes made. Our students made an impressive 3000 cranes.

Knitting peggy squares is another project we started this term. Our students are knitting individual squares which will be made into blankets to donate to charity. This will be an ongoing project so if anyone in our school whānau is a keen knitter and would like to get involved please email lgarrett@avonside.school.nz
