NZ Police: What can I do if I've been sexually assaulted

ACC Free Specialised Counselling/Therapy Anyone in New Zealand who has experienced sexual abuse or assault can access free, specialised support through ACC. It doesn’t matter when it happened, or if you reported it to Police or anyone else. ACC provides an online search tool to see the organisations that have therapists who can support you. ACC registered therapists are specialised in working with people who have experience sexual abuse or assault.

Cambridge Clinic The Cambridge Clinic is a specialist medical service. Cambridge Clinic can support you, or someone you know (13 years and over) who has been sexually assaulted or abused, either recently or in the past.

Rape Prevention Education Free support and counselling to survivors of rape and sexual abuse.

START is an organisation that provides early intervention, counselling and support for children, youth and adults and their families who have experienced sexual violence or other trauma. Our focus is providing accessible, integrated services based on best practice. START provides education about sexual violence and other trauma to the wider community. Services are usually funded through ACC.

Shakti provides a range of support services to survivors of sexual and domestic violence and other social services. Shakti works with migrant and refugee women, children and youth of Asian, African and Middle Eastern origin. We protect the rights of women and children and help them overcome the barriers that come with migration and inter-generational bonds of cultural oppression.

Aviva (formerly Women's Refuge) Aviva is available 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. Aviva provides specialist services to support people to live a life free from family and sexual violence, and overcome their enduring harms.

Safe to Talk Safe to Talk provides a 24/7 free and confidential service for those looking for help to do with sexual harm. They offer free confidential contact with trained specialists and can connect you to support services in your community.

The Independent Psychological Service (TiPs) is made up of independent practitioners who provide psychological services for children, adults, families and organisations. A number of the practitioners are ACC registered therapists

STOP If you are unsure about your own sexual thoughts or behaviour or about the behaviour of someone you know, call 03 353 0257 or you can email us info@stop.org.nz. STOP provides community-based assessment and intervention services for adolescents and adults who have engaged in harmful sexual behaviour and for children with concerning sexual behaviours.

Take it Down - Take It Down is a free service that can help you remove or stop the online sharing of nude, partially nude, or sexually explicit images or videos taken of you when you were under 18 years old. You can remain anonymous while using the service and you won’t have to send your images or videos to anyone. Take It Down will work on public or unencrypted online platforms that have agreed to participate."
