We are really proud of the students in our Kapa Haka group in 2020.

We have seventy students who are learning Māori Performing Arts and exploring Te Ao Māori, through participation in Kapa Haka. They work weekly with the Kapa Haka tutor Terina Hutana, and the senior students are gaining NCEA credits in Māori Performing Arts. 

Kapa Haka is vitally important within kura, as it contributes to the retention and revitalisation of te reo Māori and its associated culture. Students in the Kapa Haka group are having to demonstrate commitment and self -discipline, as we work towards the regional and national competitions in coming years. Students are also benefiting from the values of whakawhanaungatanga (building relationships) and manaakitanga (looking after each other). 

We are excited to have so many wonderful students committed to Kapa Haka, and are looking forward to performing for friends and whānau, when we are safely back at Ōrua Paeroa.
