The annual Educating Young Māori Minds was held at Ara in November. The day involved the 26 Avonsider’s completing a variety of STEM related challenges including, building a catapult, an amphibious boat, rocket launchers and a hydraulic platform. Each activity had links to Te Ao Māori and tauira (student) whakapapa which enable the tauira to make connections between the different activities and pūrākau (oral traditions). The girls finished third in the competition and should be very proud of their efforts.
