As a busy term 1 draws to a close, the opportunity presents itself for students and staff to rest, relax and enjoy a slower pace of life over the holiday weeks before embarking on the solid learning requirements of term 2.

We have enjoyed multiple opportunities to engage with families this term – Year 9 Parent evening, Whānau hui, Pasifika Fono, Learner Hui, NCEA Information Evening. We have also started the process of sending out our attitude reports, as well as a ‘live’ subject report for each subject, with the intention that they provide for families an ongoing indication of how girls are engaging with learning and the basis for some family discussions about engagement and progress.

Further opportunities present early in term 2, with the traditional parent/teacher subject meetings. Those meetings are scheduled for 12 and 20 May, and we will be sending out the instructions early in term 2 for families to book appointments online for whatever date best suits, to meet with each of their daughter’s subject teachers.

The richness of school life has been evident this term, with multiple opportunities beyond the classroom. Summer sporting codes have been well supported and we have enjoyed seeing our talented athletes enjoy success in a number of sports.

Polyfest performance by our large AGHS contingent was one of the term’s highlights. The Polyfest performers dedicated many hours to practice and we were very proud of their wonderful performance at Polyfest.

Our final full school assembly this term was held on 8 April and was our traditional school Harvest Festival Assembly, which enabled us to demonstrate our school value of contribution, and in doing so support the good work of City Mission both by donation of food and non-perishable items but also by the gold coin donation on our non-uniform day on the following day. We thank all those from our school community who were able to support this initiative.

Please look at the term 2 calendar in this newsletter, as there are a number of points of interest to note, including parent report evenings, dates of the school production ‘Footloose’, school closure dates for NCEA review work and the Kahui Ako Teacher Conference Day, etc.

I wish families and their daughters a relaxing holiday break and a great term 2.
