ENGLISH (LEVEL 1) - ENG111
ENG 111 is designed to empower students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary to excel in English language and literature. Students will be reading, viewing and analysing a wide range of written and visual texts. A combination of internal and external achievement standards will be offered, with students having the opportunity of achieving subject endorsement. Students will read and respond to increasingly sophisticated texts, make connections between texts and the student’s world and create their own texts for a range of audiences and purposes.

LEVEL 2 (YEAR 12) Compulsory

ENGLISH (LEVEL 2) - ENG222
ENG222 is designed to develop student’s ability to show a discerning awareness of literature and language. In this course students will read, view and analyse literature from a range of countries, cultures and time periods. Students will analyse a range of texts, make connections between texts and the student’s world and create their own texts for a range of audiences and purposes.
A combination of internal and external achievement standards will be offered, with students having the opportunity of achieving subject endorsement.

Credits: Up to 22 credits (which includes 12 reading credits and 10 writing credits for UE literacy).

LEVEL 3 (YEAR 13)

ENGLISH (LEVEL 3) - ENG333
This course is a flexible pathway for students to work on an internally assessed programme. There is also the opportunity to sit external paper(s) at the end of the year. This course is intended for students who need time and support to gain credits in achievement standards. Students will analyse a range of texts, make connections between texts and the student's world, plus create their own texts for a range of audiences and purposes. An individualized programme of work and assessment is possible and can be negotiated with the teacher throughout the year.

Credits: Up to 21 credits (which includes 8 reading credits and 6 writing credits for UE literacy)

ENGLISH LITERATURE - ENG33L
This course taps into a student's love of literature in a wide variety of forms. It is designed for students who are confident readers and writers, keen to widen their literary knowledge and further develop the critical thinking skills needed for tertiary (university) study. Another key focus is on developing students’ essay and creative writing skills. Students will have the opportunity to sit Scholarship English at the end of the year, if they wish.

Credits: Up to 17 credits internal credits and 8 external credits (which includes 8 reading credits and 10 writing credits towards UE literacy)

ENGLISH (BRIDGING THE GAP) - ENG33B
This course is a flexible pathway for students to work on an internally assessed programme with the aim of strengthening reading, writing and speaking skills. This course is intended for students who need time and support to gain credits in achievement and/or unit standards, either at Level 2 or Level 3. Students will analyse a range of texts, make connections between texts and the students' world and create their own texts for a range of audiences and purposes. An individualised programme of work and assessment is possible and can be negotiated with the teacher throughout the year.

MEDIA STUDIES - MES222
Students will explore the three key strands of media studies: media in society, reading media texts and media productions. The course will focus on the relationship between media audiences and media products; the use and effects of narrative techniques in films; the development of a movie genre; and design, plan and produce a media product. An individualised programme of work and assessment is possible and can be negotiated with the teacher throughout the year.

MEDIA STUDIES - MES333
Students will explore the three key strands of media studies: media in society; reading media texts and media productions. Students will study an aspect of a media industry; undertake a film director study; examine music streaming services; explore the relationship between a media genre and society; design and produce a short media product of their choice. An individualised programme of work and assessment is possible and can be negotiated with the teacher throughout the year.
