South Island Junior Rowing Regatta:

Congratulations to Ash Fleming for placing third in the Girls Under-18 Single Sculls at the South Island Junior Rowing Regatta.

Canterbury Swimming Championships:

Well done to all our students who participated in the Canterbury Swimming Championships that were held in May, as well as to those who competed in the South Island Swimming Championships in June.

Ultimate Frisbee:

Congratulations to Tia Lawson, Y12, who has been selected for the New Zealand under 20 Women's Ultimate Frisbee Team. They are going to be competing in the World Youth Championships in Poland in July/August this year.

Jiujitsu:

Well done to Natasha Thornton, who won 2 gold medals in the Under 12 and 13 year old category at Canterbury Jiujitsu.

Adventure Racing:

The Combined Avonside Girls' and Shirley Boys' Senior Adventure Racing team came third at the South Island 6hr Hillary Challenge event in May. This result has secured them a place in the final at Tongariro National Park later on in the year. The team are (left to right):  Felix Hunt, Andie Scheiwe, Zac Duncan, Tyler Mcavvit, Phoebe Hunt, Ash Fleming, Libby Greaves, Daniel Vickers.

Rowing Maadi Cup Team:

Mrs Law was pleased to award the Maadi Cup team their pins - well done to Andie Scheiwe, Ash Fleming, Stella Cook, Libby Greaves and Georgia Houghton.

Speed Skating:

Issy Stock and Summa Wedlake (Y9) took part in Christchurch’s speed skating competition in June.  This competition attracted clubs from around the South Island and into the North Island. Summa raced in the mixed B Grade and achieved 1 x 2nd, 1 x 3rd, 2 x 4ths and 2 x 5ths. This gave her an overall place of 4th.
Issy raced in the A Grade Ladies and achieved 3 x 3rds, 1 x 4th and 2 x 7ths. Giving Issy an overall place of 4th also.

Climbing:

The Avonside Climbing Club is up and running again. A group of dedicated climbers are working to improve their ability and are having a lot of fun supporting each other to improve and complete epic climbs! We even had a special guest recently- Mrs Law got dressed up and climbed up our wall! If you are keen to climb in Term Three, see Mrs Paton for a notice.

Ice Hockey:

Congratulations to Jacinta Hoglund who has been selected for the U15 Canterbury ice-hockey team (Red Devils).  Jacinta will travel to Dunedin in July & October to compete against the other regions.

Entertainment Book:

AGHS Netball are fundraising by selling the Entertainment Book, with 20% of each membership sold going straight to AGHS Netball.
