Product Development

Quentin Smitheram —

Product Development students worked on a range of project this year including seating, electric carts and storage units. They spend hours researching, designing and planning their projects.

The use a range of joining techniques including dovetails, dowel joints and screws where possible. They use all of the tools and equipment within the workshop including hand tools, power tools and large machinery.

These students are very motivated and driven to produce high quality work that they can be very proud of. The students who built the electric go carts were to compete on November 5th and would have done very well with their awesome electric go-carts. 1 go-cart was 1000w 48v and move at speeds of around 30km and 2 were 450w 36v and got to speeds of around 25km with a strong wind.

The students completed a welding course at ARA and put in a massive effort to ensure the go-carts were completed on time. Sadly things didn't go as planned with the carts being stolen just 3 hours before they were to arrive at the regionals race day at Burnside high school.

We will be back better and stronger next year, thanks to Tait for the financial support they gave us which helped our program take huge strides. Another successful year, albeit a tough year!
