Winter Sport

Archery 

Takes place at Avonside Girls’ High School. Term 1 offers coaching and fun shooting where students can learn and compete in indoor archery. Sessions run at lunchtimes on Thursdays. Or whenever the outside provider sets the days. This is run by an outside provider. This is dependent on numbers.

  • Sport Fee: $70 /term. This is charged per session that the student attends

Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics and Trampolining 

Canterbury Secondary School Competition. All competitors must be members of a club and up to suitable standard.

Badminton 

Takes place at various venues around Christchurch. Teams of 4 play singles and doubles. Held on Wednesday afternoons.

  • Sport Fee: $20
  • Added tournament costs if team participates
  • P.E. Uniforms must be worn

Basketball 

Takes place on Friday evenings at various school venues around Christchurch at various times.

  • Transport - students need to arrange their own transport
  • General Sport Fee: $80
  • Senior A Team Fee: $120
  • Tournament costs if team is entered. Additional cost for Quad Tournament

Club Netball 

Teams play on Saturdays with venues TBC. Teams will also play on Wednesdays. Senior A, Year 10A, and Year 9A (must be available for tournament.)

  • Sport Fee: $250. Fees will be set after Christchurch Netball Club set their fees
  • Year 9 and Year 10 purchase own uniforms Price - Approx. $140
  • Tournament teams will have costs when entry fees
  • Tournament teams will have extra costs (Senior A team bag hire for the season)
  • More information will be available for those interested especially in the training camp

Cross Country/Road Race 

After the school championships have been held, a team is selected to represent the school based off the results. These may go through to South Islands or Nationals, depending on their results.

  • Entry fees plus cost of travel and accommodation to competitions.

Cycling 

Takes place on Wednesdays on Old Tai Tapu Rd. All participants need their own bike (road or mountain) and helmet. Events vary from week to week. Parents need to drop off and pick up and runs from approximately 3-4 pm. Please contact spots office if interested.

Fencing: 

Held all year round in the Gym after school if there are the numbers are available. Please note this is an outside provider.

Fitness Room 

The fitness room is available for Year 11, 12 and 13 students plus sports teams under coach/teacher/qualified trainer supervision.

Football 

Games are played mostly at Hagley Park but occasionally at school fields on Wednesdays. Seniors play in an outside competition on artificial turf.

  • Sport Fee: Juniors - $40
  • Sport Fee: Seniors - TBC
  • Tournament team costs will be announced when available

Hockey 

Takes place on Wednesday afternoons at Nunweek Park, Marist Park, or Ngā Puna Wai.

  • Transport - students need to arrange their own transport to and from games
  • Sports Fee: $280
  • Tournament costs for the First XI will be announced when available

Multisport 

Canterbury events are held throughout the year.

  • Entry Fees and Tournament Fees if team is entered

Rugby 

Is held at Burnside Park each Wednesday during the winter season, is organised by Canterbury Rugby.

  • Sport Fee: $60
  • Tournament fees if a team is entered

Skiing /Snowboarding 

Canterbury Championships held once a year.

  • Students are required to make their own way to the ski field
  • Tournament cost associated with event if any one is wanting to enter

Sport Climbing 

Thursdays after school at the school gym. This is dependent on numbers

  • Sport Fee: $25

Squash 

Played at various club courts around Christchurch on Wednesdays. Teams of 4 play best of 3 games each. Finish times are variable.

  • Transport – students need to arrange their own transport
  • Sport Fee: $20
  • Tournament fees are required if a team is entered

Table Tennis 

Played at Table Tennis Stadium, 294 Blenheim Road every Wednesday during the winter season. Teams of 4 play 4 singles and 2 doubles sets. Game times vary each week.

Wednesday Netball

(Please note that this is not the club netball teams.)

Takes place on Wednesdays, mostly at Hagley Park but occasionally other school venues or at Avonside Girls’ High School. Games are of 40 minutes duration. Finish time approximately 3.45pm.

  • Own transport if able
  • This is for students that play for other clubs on Saturdays but want to play with their friends on Wednesdays
  • Sport Fee: $25
