Māpuna Library

Wendy Wright —

What a busy time it has been, Covid continues to deliver suprises, we started the year by having to separate the library into two spaces, one for each school, to keep everyone Covid free.

Avonside Girls' High School side of the library was managed by Mrs Reichwein, this was a new way to manage the space for us and presented many challenges.

Sadly, the separating of space did not stop Covid and Term 2 was plagued with student absences and staffing issues, flu season did not help this scenario.

The library has been well used this year even with the disruptions we had. Our loan numbers have increased and parents have popped in to collect books for students when they have been isolating at home.

The trend of Avonside Girls' High School students preferring the new Heart Stopper series and Horror titles continues, over 200 books have been added to the collection to make sure we have up to date and high interest titles for the students to enjoy.

A great night was held in the library in August with the launch of Mrs MacKay Students magazine “Phasing”, congratulations to the students for the planning and effort they put into this major event.

We have spent a lot of time making sure that excellent resources are available to support the new History curriculum that will be introduced next year.

Miss Loakman and Mrs Reichwein have continue to be hardworking on behalf of Māpuna Library and have adapted well to the challenges 2022 has placed in their way.

Congratulations to them on completing another year with good humour, dealing with thousands of books and devices to help the students have the best learning outcomes possible.

We wish all students a safe and fun Christmas break and congratulations to all Year 13’s on completing their high school years, may you have success and happiness in your future.
