Connecting Students with Employers

AGHS —

In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Careers Department has been busy this term connecting students with employers.  These visits included:

Mainfreight:  On the 12 August we had a visit from Sonya Taylor, a manager from Mainfreight based in Sydney, to discuss careers in transport and logistics.

DairyNZ:  On the 22 September in collaboration with Dairy NZ a group of students visited a dairy farm in Oxford to meet with the farm manager Kerry, who is an ex-student, to learn more about careers in Agriculture. They found out that Kerry loves starting work at 3.30 am in the morning bringing the cows in for milking.

Youth Work and Social Work:  On the 9 September a group of senior students interested in Youth Work and Social Work visited Papanui Youth Development Trust and Purapura Whetu to learn about pathways into Social Services.

Entrepreneurs:  On the 5 August a group of potential entrepreneurs visited The Ministry of Awesome to hear from the CEO and business start-up owners. If you have a solution for an existing problem then The Ministry of Awesome will mentor you to put the idea into fruition.

Photos of these visits are at the bottom of this page.
