YEAR 9

Students select one Language to study in Year 9 and are encouraged to select further Languages if they wish to.

If students wish to continue with their language in Year 10, they need to study this at Year 9.

If students select Junior Te Reo Māori (JTRM) for those with prior knowledge, this is a one year course and counts for two semesters.

French - Discovering French 1 - 9FRE1

This course is for students who have very little or no experience of learning French. In this course you will learn how to introduce yourself in French and talk about your interests, family and pets. You will also discover French food, music and countries where French is spoken.

Japanese - Discovering Japanese 1 - 9JAP1

In this course you will experience the rich culture of Japan through a variety of cultural and language activities. Discover festivals, anime, music, legends, the Hiragana alphabet and gain confidence in speaking basic Japanese.

Spanish - Discovering Spanish 1 - 9SPA1

This course is for students who have very little or no experience of learning Spanish. In this course you will learn how to introduce yourself in Spanish and talk about your interests, family and pets. You will also discover Spanish food, music and countries where Spanish is spoken.

YEAR 10

In Year 10, students may choose to continue a language that they have already studied in year 9.

Year 10 is a full year course and is essential for those planning to continue the language to NCEA level 1.

French - My World - 10FRE1

In this course you will gain confidence in communicating in French. Learn to speak about yourselves, your family and others, French fashion trends and travel, daily routine, where you live, meals and restaurants, hobbies and interests. Develop cultural knowledge by discovering French music and traditions.

Japanese - My World - 10JPN1

In this course you will learn to speak about yourself, your family and others, Japanese fashion and trends, weather and travel, daily routine, meals and restaurants, hobbies and interests, school life. Develop fluency in reading and writing the Hiragana alphabet and Katakana alphabets and learn some Kanji.

Spanish - My World - 10SPA1

In this course students will gain confidence in communicating in Spanish. They will learn to speak about themselves, family and others, daily routine, where they live, meals and restaurants, hobbies and interests. Cultural knowledge will be further developed by discovering Spanish music, fiestas and traditions.
