YEAR 10 HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION - 10HPE

Students will develop an understanding of how body image and sexuality impact people and how to deal with change, loss and grief. The use of interpersonal skills and their impact on others will be explored, along with various decision-making models. Opportunities for improving sport

and recreational skills and an awareness and appreciation of cultural activities and community resources that promote well-being will be explored.

LEVEL 1 (YEAR 11)

HEALTH - HTH111

Students will develop their interpersonal skills, set goals and explore problem solving models. They will learn how to promote positive sexuality and overcome change while developing an in-depth understanding of hauora / wellbeing. Students will develop an awareness of drugs and alcohol issues and create strategies to help individuals, others and communities enhance overall health.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION - PED111

Students explore a range of factors that impact their performance of and participation in physical activity. Through a variety of practical contexts students challenge their physical fitness, explore their understanding of working within a team and develop existing motor skills. They develop a theoretical knowledge of Sports Science which is connected to the above aspects. Students who enjoy Physical Education and seek a deeper understanding of its principles should consider this course.

LEVEL 2 (YEAR 12)

HEALTH - HTH222

Students will learn how to self-advocate, enhance their personal and interpersonal skills and critically think and reflect about personal and societal views within contexts of gender and sexuality. Students will consider the constantly changing environment and daily stressors in their relationships with themselves and others. Working in a team, students will promote health using a project - based approach.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION - PED222

This course is based on applying theoretical knowledge to practical physical performance. Students learn the principles of physical training and apply their knowledge through a training programme with sessions run by themselves and their classmates. They go on to investigate the psychological processes that we go through when we learn new skills.

Sport is a powerful and important part of society and students will research a major sporting event and the effect it will have on society.

LEAP - LEADERSHIP AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION - PEL222

This course is based on practical experiences in coaching, event planning, risk management, outdoor recreation and first aid. Students coach sporting teams, design lesson plans for coaching, plan for and investigate risk management in the outdoors, gain a first aid qualification and learn about social responsibility. Assessment is through reflective pieces based on their practical experiences.

Entry Requirements: 12 credits from PED111 or 12 credits from another practical Level 1 subject

Credits: 21 (14 at Level 2, 1 credit at

Level 1, 6 credits at Level 3)

Expenses: $20 for coaching shirt and whistle (optional)

LEVEL 3 (YEAR 13)

HEALTH - HTH333

The students will research and explore national and international complexities of specific health situations; develop reasoned arguments; apply critical thinking to a range of contemporary health practices. They will explore attitudes and values of ethical issues in relation to hauora / well-being. Strategies to address determinants of health will be developed at a regional, national and international scale. 

Entry Requirements: 10 credits from HTH222 or 10 credits from ENG222

PHYSICAL EDUCATION - PED333

This course will appeal to those students who are interested in the science of how to improve skills and fitness for sport, who would like to consider the world of sport and recreation, and issues surrounding it. Students will deepen their understanding of bio-physical and socio-cultural principles. There are a number of opportunities for students to learn in contexts of their own choice, including purely practical contexts.

LEAP - LEADERSHIP AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION - PEL333

This is an advanced leadership course during which students partake in sports coaching, outdoor leadership and adaptive recreation.

Students will learn to plan for and safely manage activities such as personal training and coaching. Researching, developing broader knowledge and then delivering recreational experiences for
