Senior Prizegiving and Year 13 Graduation 2020

AGHS —

Our Senior Prizegiving and Year 13 Graduation ceremony was held in Te Paetini, our large Theatre space on 11 November, prior to departure to NCEA examinations for senior students.

The evening of celebration involved reports from the Board Chair and Principal, along with an address by Head Girl, Brydie Washington. Amidst the awarding of special awards and certificates of excellence to top students in each subject, the audience was treated to wonderful performances by the orchestra, chorale and saxophone ensemble.

The evening culminated in the presentation of the top academic awards of Dux and Proxime Accessit. Two high performing students who had already received a raft of subject and special awards were named as this year’s top students. Congratulations to Maddison Teape, Dux of Avonside Girls’ High School for 2020 and to Madison Kennedy for being named as Proxime Accessit, or runner-up to Dux.

Maddison Teape was awarded subject prizes in Biology, English, Design and Visual Communications and Mathematics with Calculus. She was also awarded a Leadership Award, a service award with Excellence and the Board of Trustees Prize for Service to the School.

Madison Kennedy won subject prizes in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics with Statistics and Physics. She was also awarded a research prize and the Hugh Rankin Education Trust Scholarship for Outstanding Achievement in the Sciences.

Both girls are recipients of scholarships to Otago University where they plan to study first year Health Sciences.

After staff processed from the auditorium, a slide show capturing special moments over the Year 13s time at Avonside was played. Year 13s then gathered on the stage to be acknowledged by families and processed from the auditorium, via a guard of honour of applauding staff, to the foyer where supper was served for staff, Year 13 students and their families.
