Lillian Hovell Allomes and BLENNZ

AGHS —

Lillian Hovell Allomes, a year 12 student with a visual impairment, is enrolled in a second school BLENNZ; BLENNZ stands for Blind Low Vision Network New Zealand.

At BLENNZ Lillian learns new skills to adapt to her visual needs but also since the start of high school she has tutored and mentored younger students. One of the many events that Lillian volunteers at every year is the Funday Friday.

Funday Friday is an event where young, visually impaired, primary aged children can go to have fun and also learn life skills such as cooking, orientating to new environment and making valuable connections to other young people with needs.

As a mentor for the younger students, Lillian helped them cook lunch, play on the playground and just have fun. The theme for this year’s Funday was Halloween so Lillian dressed up as a police officer, which the younger kids thought was really cool.
