AGHS —

Our students were ready for the term break and to celebrate the end of term one we enjoyed a shared dinner at the Southern Asian Kitchen. It was a lovely evening with great food.

During the second week of the holidays we travelled to Akaroa for a mini break. We were joined by Shirley Boys’ and Rangiora High international students, and it was great to meet new people. The weather was kind as we cruised the harbour in search of dolphins but sadly we only saw two. Our trip to the Giants Garden was filled with surprise as we wandered around the beautiful garden looking at the mosaic sculptures. We were fortunate to have an evening tour of the Akaroa Lighthouse which was lit up for our visit and on the way home we stopped at Shamarra Alpacas where we able to feed and pat the Alpacas. The views from the farm were amazing.

During the holidays some of our students volunteered as Leaders at the YMCA School Holiday programme which is a wonderful opportunity for them to learn leadership skills and converse in English.

Our term two volunteer activity is knitting peggy squares to make blankets for charity.

The International Council organised an ice skating outing for AGHS and SBHS last weekend, and now they are planning a fundraising event for term two.
