LEVEL 2 (YEAR 12)

HOSPITALITY - HOS222

In this course students will develop the skills and appropriate knowledge needed to work in the Hospitality industry. Students will get an understanding of the workings of the kitchen through food safety knowledge, practical skill knowledge and food product knowledge. They will also be introduced to the front of house in setting tables and providing table service.

There will be opportunities to gain catering experiences through various school functions.

Students who choose this course are supporting their pathways.

LEVEL 3 (YEAR 13)

EARLY CHILDHOOD - ECD333

This subject is ideal for students who are thinking of a career in either Early Childhood or Primary teaching. While it is not UE approved, it is an excellent additional subject alongside your other UE approved subjects and a good foundation for a Bachelor of Teaching and Learning. You will learn about Child Development, ECE Philosophies in Aotearoa, Building Relationships with tamariki and more.

HOSPITALITY - HOS333

This course further develops the skills learnt in HOS222 in a practical commercial kitchen setting, with a focus on presenting restaurant style and quality meals. Students will develop a variety of culinary skills through the preparing and cooking of vegetables, hot and cold desserts and further develop their knowledge of culinary terms.

Students will be required to complete catering experience at various school functions.

Entry Requirements: It is recommended that students have achieved US167 or AS90959 for Health & Safety requirements.

POLICE PATHWAY PROGRAMME - PPP333

The Police Pathway Programme is run on a Friday for the full school day. Students develop skills and understanding related to serving their country as part of the NZ Police. The programme is well supported by regular police staff visits. Students will be doing activities such as parkour, running, strength, agility and swimming designed to meet the physical requirements of the NZ police recruitment. Students will also participate in community service projects.

Entry Requirements: Able to participate in physical activity. Interest in the Police as a possible career.

Credits: Up to 20 credits Level 3 Unit standard credits.

This is for Year 13 students. Year 12 students may be considered if they are planning to leave at the end of Year 12.

PRACTICAL HARD MATERIALS – THP332

This Level 3 hands on course is aimed at students who might be considering working in the construction or furniture making fields. It is a practical industry unit standard based course that focuses on building a shed or playhouse while working in a small team.

Credits: 20 credits at Level 3
