Senior A Netball

AGHS —

The Senior A netball team have been improving throughout the season.

The South Island Secondary School's netball tournament was unfortunately cancelled due to covid-19. Nevertheless, the team has been lucky enough to compete in a Christchurch based tournament. The tournament was held at Cowles and Celebration Stadium from 31 August until 2 September.  We competed in the B Grade alongside Ellesmere A, Christchurch Girls B, Rolleston A, Darfield A, Hornby A, St Margarets B & Oxford A. Our teams' goal was to win 2 of the 3 round robin games.

On day 1 we had 2 round robin games; in our first game vs Hornby A we had a very good win (44-5). In our second game vs STMG B, STMG unfortunately coming away with the win (26-14). We were all proud of the results for our first day at tournament but wanted to come out firing for the second day to ensure we won the last round robin game.

On the second day we played Oxford and won 31-16. This means we had achieved our goal of winning 2/3 of the round robin games. We had made the top 4. This resulted in us competing against Darfield in the semifinals to determine who goes into the 1-2 or 3-4 playoffs. Darfield won 33-21 but we put up a tough fight which we were proud of. This meant we were playing for 3rd-4th in our final.

On day 3 (finals day) we played Christchurch Girls B. This game was very close. At full time the score was drawn and there was overtime until one team got up by 2. We played overtime for 15 mins before CGHS took the win 29-27. Therefore we came 4th overall which we were very proud of.

We improved a lot over the 3 days and learnt the importance of communication and how to deal with pressure. We are ready to finish the rest of the season off with a bang.
