March 15 Remembrance

AGHS —

On March 15 we remembered and acknowledged the third anniversary of the Christchurch Mosque attacks

Students wrote messages of love and hope on brightly coloured paper and created these paper chains of hope which we displayed in our main entrance foyer.  The whole school stopped for a minute silence while our Principal read the following message:

Kia ora koutou

Today Tuesday March 15, 2022, marks the third anniversary of the senseless attack on the Linwood and Al Noor Mosques. These attacks shattered all of us and broke our hearts.

Over the past three years our Muslim community has shown us love and forgiveness, I hope what we have shown them is a more inclusive country that will continue to stand in unity against discrimination. Let us take a minute to stand silent in honour of the 51 lives lost and those injured, and think about how each one of us will play our part in building a compassionate society that values the strength and connection we have in our diversity.
