YEAR 10 ENGLISH - 10 ENG

This course is about supporting students to become critically literate consumers of a range of texts. Students will read and respond to written, visual and spoken texts. They will create a variety of texts for a range of audiences and purposes.

LEVEL 1 (YEAR 11)

ENGLISH (LEVEL 1) - ENG11E

This course offers a flexible pathway as students work on completing Level 1 English through a combination of internal and external achievement standards. Students will have the opportunity to read and respond to a range of texts, make connections between texts and the student's world and create their own texts for a range of audiences and purposes. Students have the opportunity of achieving subject endorsement in this course.

Credits: Up to 20 credits (20 credits Level 1 literacy).

ENGLISH (ADVANCED) - ENG11A 

This is a faster-paced English course where students will be reading, viewing and analyzing a wide range of written and visual texts. A combination of internal and external achievement standards will be offered, with students having the opportunity of achieving subject endorsement. Students will read and respond to increasingly sophisticated texts, make connections between texts and the student’s world and create their own texts for a range of audiences and purposes.

Credits: Up to 20 credits (20 credits Level 1 literacy).

LEVEL 2 (YEAR 12)

ENGLISH (LEVEL 2) - ENG22E

This course is a flexible pathway as students work on completing Level 2 English through a combination of internal and external achievement standards. Students will have the opportunity to analyse a range of texts, make connections between texts and the student's world and create their own texts for a range of audiences and purposes. Students have the opportunity of achieving subject endorsement in this course. 

Entry Requirements: 10 Level 1 English credits.

Credits: Up to 21 credits (which includes 8 reading credits and 6 writing credits for UE literacy).

ENGLISH (ADVANCED) - ENG22A

This is a faster-paced English class as students work on completing Level 2 English through a combination of internal and external achievement standards. Students will have the opportunity to analyse a range of sophisticated texts, make connections between texts and the st udent 's world and create their own texts for a range of audiences and purposes. Students have the opportunity of achieving subject endorsement in this course, plus may be considering sitting Scholarship English in Year 13. 

Entry Requirements: 14 Level 1 English credits.

Credits: Up to 17 internal credits and 8 external credits (which includes 12 reading credits and 10 writing credits towards UE literacy).

LEVEL 3 (YEAR 13)

ENGLISH (LEVEL 3) - ENG33E

This course is a flexible pathway for students to work on an internally assessed programme. There is also the opportunity to sit external paper(s) at the end of the year. This course is intended for students who need time and support to gain credits in achievement standards. Students will analyse a range of texts, make connections between texts and the student's world plus create their own texts for a range of audiences and purposes. An individualized programme of work and assessment is possible and can be negotiated with the teacher throughout the year.

ENGLISH (LOVERS OF LITERATURE) - ENG33L 

This course taps into a students’ love of literature in a wide variety of forms. It is designed for students who are confident readers and writers, keen to widen their literary knowledge and further develop the critical thinking skills needed for tertiary (university) study. Another key focus is on developing students’ essay and creative writing skills. Students will have the opportunity to sit Scholarship English at the end of the year, if they wish.

Entry Requirements: 14 Level 2 English credits

Credits: Up to 17 credits internal credits and 8 external credits (which includes 8 reading credits and 10 writing credits towards UE literacy)

ENGLISH (BRIDGING THE GAP) - ENG33B 

This course is a flexible pathway for students to work on an internally assessed programme with the aim of strengthening reading, writing and speaking skills. This course is intended for students who need time and support to gain credits in achievement and/or unit standards, either at Level 2 or Level 3. Students will analyse a range of texts, make connections between texts and the students' world and create their own texts for a range of audiences and purposes. An individualised programme of work and assessment is possible and can be negotiated with the teacher throughout the year.

Credits: Up to 18 credits (which includes 5 reading credits and 5 writing credits towards UE literacy)
