The Subjects we offer as part of our Enrichment Program - Ngā Hōtaka Haumako

YEAR 9 AND 10 ESOL (ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES) - ESOLJ

In this subject students are given extra English and subject support through vocabulary, reading, writing and speaking activities. 

Entry Requirements: Students need to come from a non-English speaking background and entry is based on ability determined by testing

ESOL (ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES) - ESL123 

This course aims to help students gain Level 1, 2 and 3 Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening ESOL credits.

The vocabulary tasks and texts studied in ESOL class help extend their English understanding.

Students will also receive other subject support.

Entry Requirements: Students need to come from a non-English speaking background and entry is based on ability determined by testing

Credits: A possible 20 English Language credits depending on the level

KEY SKILLS - KEY121

Students who choose this course are aiming to supplement their credits at both level 1 and 2 when they may find it difficult in other subjects. Students participate in a range of outdoor activities, life skill challenges and group activities to gather evidence to prove their competency. Entirely assessed by internal assessments means that success is more accessible for many. 

Entry Requirements: Students may choose this subject themselves or be selected by teaching staff based on their individual needs

FOUNDATION STUDIES - FND123

The New Zealand Certificate in Foundation Skills Level 1 is a complementary qualification to NCEA Level 1, providing a pathway for students who are needing to re-engage with their learning or are overwhelmed by 6 subjects at Level l. It is a two to three-year course and focuses on developing the Key Competencies, which provide a good grounding for

vocational pathways, further tertiary courses or employment, New Zealand Certificates in Foundation Studies Level 2 or NCEA Level 2. Students will collate a portfolio that evidences their improving skills in teamwork, self-reliance, initiative and employability.

Entry Requirements: Students may choose this subject themselves or be selected by teaching staff based on their individual needs

Credits: 60 in total over entire course (over the two to three years)

PERSONALISED LEARNING PROGRAMME - PLP123

Do you have a real interest in learning more about your interests and passions? Are you motivated to carry out your own project with help and support from your teacher and other experts? This course is for Year 11-13 students who want to pursue their own learning project. Students will learn how to develop a focus, plan a timeline and direct their own learning project. Students’ outcomes will be shared with the wider school community and you will probably carry out two projects over the course of the year. Students considering this course must see Ms Hickey or Ms Boxall to discuss possible projects. 

Entry Requirements: Self-motivation and a desire to learn, create and share

Credits: Standards and credits are dependent on individual projects. There may be no credits available for some courses
