Group A have finished up the term with biscuits, pavlovas, chocolate and the Mystery Box Challenge

The Year 8's have finished the term with some sweet treats.  They made their own designer biscuits and iced them. Then they made some pinwheel biscuits which involved colouring and flavouring the dough before rolling them together.  They made pavlovas without using an electric beater, and realised elbow grease was needed to get the maximum amount of air into the egg whites. Finally they learnt how to melt chocolate and used it several ways including some great piping work and using moulds to create great shapes.  

The Mystery Box Challenge is a highlight of the term.  The classroom teachers look forward to the creations made by the students.  The students have no idea what is under the tea-towel or who they are going to work with when they arrive for class. Most boxes have a protein, carbohydrate, vegetable or fruit and something extra. They have 50 minutes to plan, cook, serve and clean-up before the judges arrive.  The tables look fantastic with 6 different plates.  The judges take this responsibility very seriously and  always have a hard time choosing their favourite and often need time to deliberate.  

All the students have been sent copies of the recipes they have made this term and their reports (workbooks) will be coming out in week 1 of next term.
