Long Beach

Jake Scott —

As we drove over the hill, we saw the glistening water reflecting off the bright blue sky. I looked beside me and I saw the tiny lambs running and playing tag with their friends. I saw the fresh green grass swaying in the way of the wind and the little birds flying gracefully. It was a perfect day for the beach.

On Monday the 5th of November room 9 went on a fascinating trip to Long Beach!

We travelled down by car to long beach and arrived at around 9.10am. When we got down to the beach we were sorted into 3 groups, “The Penguins, The Seals and the Albatross. The 3 groups went onto their activities, “a cave activity, a mid-beach competition and the most beloved activity, ROCK CLIMBING!!! we went off to our activities, at the mid-beach activity it was really fun! I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't been yet but I will anyway, we had a competition where you had to try and make a golf ball roll for as long as you could, now I know that you are all probably saying “well what's the longest time then!?” well I will tell you, at the end. So on Friday Mr Scott reminded everyone to bring a bucket and spade, we were all unsure as to why, but the very few people who did remember on Monday were about 5 steps ahead of everyone. You basically had to make a track and roll a ball down it for as long as you could.

Now, onto the cave activity, my personal favourite, next to rock climbing of course! This was like a treasure hunt. We all had to go into the cave and find 21 $20 notes! We all had torches of course, and now I KNOW that you are saying, obviously, it would be easy, but no, it was NOT. you see the thing is, we were all put together in a GIANT, RUBBER, BAND!!! Eventually we found all the money, (it was fake by the way) we went back to the start, and then we saw a flag, out in the distance so we thought “well maybe, we are meant to go over there, so we did, and the 1 person saw a popsicle stick, and then we all started looking for more. In the end, we found them all, we had enough for 1 each. Again we went back to the place where we started and we found Mr Scott. He had laid out a bunch of random pieces of paper and the had some weird pirate writing on them. We had to figure what all the letters added up to.  Eventually, in the end, it said: .and then we got a surprising message from Mr Scott. He said that he had stuffed up. Apparently we were meant to figure out the sentence first and then go onto the popsicle stick, but of course, we wouldn't have known that because Mr Scott wasn't there.

Now, for my ultimate favourite, ROCK CLIMBING!!! We walked over to the very other side of the beach and got started! We talked to the instructor, her name was Teagan and she helped us harness up. Then we went on to do a little exercise to get us warmed up and ready to climb. It was called bouldering. What we had to do for that was walk along the side of the rocks, we were only like half a meter above the ground. This was just a warmup to get our hands use to the hand holds and grips. Now for the fun part, THE CLIMBING!! We had to have a demonstrator to show everyone how it is done, and it is just a coincidence that it was yours truly, me, who was the demonstrator. I got to be the first person to climb, and boy it was fun! When I first got up into the climb, I was pretty excited and nervous. But the part that is even scarier was when you had to abseil back down. Now for the big climbs! One thing that I found on some of the climbs was that you really had to let your inner muscle free and do it thing, you also had to really get down on your knees, or should I say, up!? When I was rock climbing I felt a variety of emotions! I'm sure that the rest of the class did too!

I really enjoyed the trip to long beach and I'm sure that everyone else did too!

Lastly, I would like to conclude this with a big thanks to everyone who helped out. Thanks to Mr Scott for organising it. Thanks, Teagan for instructing us with rock climbing and a HUGE thanks to all the parent helpers, we wouldn't have been able to do it without you! (and between you and me, White Sand is not as innocent as it looks)
