Cats vs Dogs - which one do you prefer??

Man's best friend or a purring companion? Which one would you choose?

Over the last week our class has been working on our persuasive writing to argue the case for cats vs dogs. Along with our writing we also completed an artwork for one or the other. Below is some of our writing and some of our art work!

Dogs vs Cats

Have you ever seen a cat run up to its owner upon arrival back home? No, But i’ve seen plenty of dogs come running when their owner comes home. Ever seen a dog cough up a furball and leave it for you to pick up? Well i sure haven’t. Need exercise? Get a dog, They need to be walked and it’s a good way for you to get out exercising. Sure no one likes to pick up dog poop, But do you really want a stinky litter box lying around your house. Maybe dogs will kill the odd mouse and leave it lying around but ever seen a dog bring in dead birds, bugs and many more into your house? No! But i’ve seen a lot of cats bringing dead things into houses. Ever woken up in the middle of the night while two cats casually decide to have a fight outside your house? Because I have, but I can’t say I’ve woken up to dogs fighting sure they may be barking but they aren’t physically attacking one another. Has your cat actually ever listened to you? No, But dogs are more obedient and you can teach them to be helpful and do cute tricks.

And that is why I believe dogs make more loyal pets than a cat. Get yourself a dog today!! By Kate

Dogs are better than cats!!!

There are so many different breeds of dogs and there's ones to fit your everyday needs.

Dogs can understand human feelings and emotions, and it is believed that they also can help those with depression and anxiety .

Dogs can keep you fit and healthy... taking your dog for a walk can benefit you and your dog it can help improve your social life. by taking your dog to the park can help you meet other people with the same interest in dogs

Dogs are generally very protective of their owners.. dogs are known as a man's best friend because of their loyalty they feel the need to protect their owners Dogs bring a huge amount of joy to humans and there are some dogs that are trained to make people feel comfortable

Many dogs are trained to do many different things each one is useful to almost everyone. german shepherd help the police. Labradors, golden retrievers guide blind people around and that's just two of the many dogs that are trained to help

Here are some reasons why cats aren't alway the best pets to have in you home

  • Cats only give you attention when they want it

  • Cat get fleas and ticks very often from the outdoors

  • Cats will claw up your furniture

  • They definitely have a bad attitude

  • Cats like to go outside and without a cat door you have to let them out and back in and from past experience it can get very annoying

  • Dogs don't need a litter box

And this is why I think dogs are better than cats by Eva

In the age old battle between cats and dogs there has never been a clear winner until now…

Every day children all over the world walk into their homes after a long boring day of school excited to put their sore feet up but their needy dog comes running up to them ready to play. But with a cat you can walk on into your bedroom and relax not having to be annoyed by an over excited dog.

Have you ever seen a dog chase all the rats and mice out of you house? No and have you ever seen a cat not chase them out? No cats will exterminate all those unwanted rodents that invade your house.Don’t even get me started on the extensive food bills dogs produce.

Do you ever here a cat barking tis head off in the middle of the night ? no cats are always roaming around outside or peacefully sleeping causing no noise or midnight drama.

Unlike dogs cats reduce the risks of heart attacks which makes a safer environment for the elderly.People with a busy lifestyle don’t have time to walk a hyperactive dog whereas cats are independent and will look after and entertain themselves just fine.

In conclusion I think I have showed you why our feline friends are so much better than dogs.Go buy a cat! By Julia

  • Let’s start with the undeniable fact that cats are cleaner than dogs. Cats are easily toilet trained, and even if they are not, they do their best to bury their waste. Dogs, meanwhile, cannot be toilet trained, and dog poo is still a serious hazard to sidewalks; I had to dodge about five patches of the stuff on my way to school today, left by owners who did not want to pick it up. To be honest, that’s understandable. Another point is smell. The only way to get a cat to smell is to rub it in something that smells strongly. Meanwhile, dogs rush around every day smelling of armpit. One argument I hear a lot is “cats are dumb”. It is a well known fact that cats are more intelligent than dogs. A cat will resist eating pills, or any kind of chemicals, even if you grind it into tiny pieces and sprinkle it on their food, they will not eat it. Meanwhile, the only thing you need to do to feed a dog a pill is to rap it in bacon. This might seem like an advantage of dogs, but actually it shows that cats have much superior intelligence and sense of smell. Most ‘dog’ people will talk about dogs ‘loyalty’ (and believe me, it is probably the closest dog people can get to a convincing argument). BUT… there are many arguments against this being an advantage of dogs, or even being true.

  • Firstly, if you have had a bad day at school or work, the last thing you want is an over excited creature jumping up and trying to lick you on the face. Cats, meanwhile, appreciate personal space, and the closest they will ever get to this kind of behaviour is a friendly rub against the leg. It isn’t like cats are withdrawn, either; if you are open to it, most cats will happily sit on your lap, and most cats do appreciate a tickle - just like dogs!

  • Secondly-most dogs aren’t anywhere near as ‘loyal’ as dog people say; although some highly trained military dogs would risk their lives for their owner, most dogs I know would, if you moved away and left them behind, stand in the street and bark for five minutes before wandering off to find a new owner. At this point I can probably predict that the dog people are thinking ‘well, cats aren’t very much better; but here’s an interesting story. A cat in the US, who’s name I have temporarily forgotten, had it’s owners move away; it was given to some neighbours, but, over the course of a week, the cat actually travelled the across the city to it’s old owner’s new house; not only does this show that the cat had an incredible sense of intelligence and smell to find the house in the first place, but also, if that isn’t loyalty, I don’t know what is.

  • Another point I have to make is that cats are better for the environment than dogs: in 2009 a scientists report found that dogs have twice the carbon footprint of your average SUV; forget switching to electrictric cars, dog people should switch to cats!
  • To wrap things up I am going to quickly go over all the reasons that cats are better than dogs:
  • Cats:
  • Take care of themselves (take much less work to be litter trained etc)

  • Do not need to be walked (unlike dogs)

  • Do not smell (unlike dogs)

  • Catch pests (unlike dogs)

  • Take up much less space than dogs: being less active creatures, they do not need to rush around the house, or be taken on walks: they are perfectly content with a small house or even an apartment

  • Cats curiosity makes them hilarious pets (the ratio of funny cat to funny dog videos on the internet is approximately 1000000000:1)

  • Cats appreciate personal space: dogs jump up, lick you on the face, and generally annoy you when you want some space

  • Cats are quiet apart from the occasional meow, dogs go psycho when someone rings the doorbell.

  • Finally, to finish this speech, I would like to make a very important point: cats are cheaper than dogs. Owning a cat instead of a dog could save you at least $300 dollars per year, probably more. Therefore, I strongly suggest that you buy a cat as they are more convenient pets, and looking a the number of dog attacks over the years suggests that all that stuff about “man’s best friend” is complete NONSENSE.

Mud dribbling through matted fur. Saliva dripping onto soggy paws. An unforgettable smell that everyone knows as; wet dog. Who wants to go to somebody's house when they have a animal that’s always under your feet ridden with an unforgivable stench. Who would want a dog? Especially when you could have a cat.

15th of May 2014. United States of America. Hot summer day. A four year old and his cat running around the neighborhood happy as could be. Until a dog comes along. This dog supposedly ‘Mans Best Friend’ attacks an innocent 4 year old. Who should come to the rescue but Tara his cat. Tara charges at the dog full of fury and knocks over the kanine twice her size. Tara is now classed as a hero. Tara stayed by her owner whilst he recovered from cuts and bruises inflicted by the vicious beast known as the dog.

Have you ever woken up under a large panting dog? No, well if you have you’ll know they try take up as much space as possible. The stretch them self as big as they can and then try be as loud and obnoxious as they can. Even chihuahuas manage to stretch themselves out. Whereas a cat takes up little space and they will try and squish themselves into the smallest places so they can nap. Not to mention that you splurge all your money on dog toys but only buy a bag of cat food for your feline. So basically dogs are bigger and more expensive. Cats are the complete opposite.

So cats are superior to dogs by …. Alot. From the amount of money and space they take up to the stench they make cats come out on top. Cats are better. I have one more bit of advice for you; take your dog to the pound and pick up a cute little cat.
