Balmacewen entered a team in the Otago League Carnival on Friday March 17th

On Friday our Balmac League Team headed off to Logan Park to take on other Y7-8 teams in the Otago League Carnival.   18 Boys had been practicing for the last 2 weeks with Jamie Rouvi-Hammond.

When we arrived at Logan Park we met Ben Matulino and Kieran Foran from the Warriors and then some of the Bulldogs for some signing and photo opportunities.

The first game was against John McGlashan College which we won 40-16.  Some good tackles put in by the Balmac Boys and we took every opportunity we got.

Second game against DNI was a lot closer 16-8. But strong runs and good team work with passing and supporting each other all contributed to the win.

Our last pool game was against a strong Tahuna Gold team.  Lots of defensive tackles had to be made and we were down 12-0 at one point in the second half.  Then came an intercept by Dean who ran the length of the field to score. This try swung the momentum and we scored 3 more times to draw with Tahuna. 16-16 was the final score.

Unfortunately we hadn't scored as many tries as Tahuna all up so we played for 3V4 against a strong Outram team.  This game went to golden point.  Outram was on our line when a knock-on occurred. Nimble fingers from Hamish saw some quick passing and strong running from the team to run up the field. Will finished it off with a try under the post.

The Balmac team finished 3rd, but didn't lose a game all day.  Big thanks to Jamie for coaching and Kevin who spent the day with us. Well done to all the boys.  It was a great day out.
