The Balmacewen Intermediate school production Little Stars is on Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th of September at the Otago Boys High School auditorium, starting at 6:30pm. Tickets cost $5 per person and are on sale from Monday 17th of September at the Balmacewen school office.

The third group has nearly finished their time in the Food Technology room.

Finally after weeks of waiting Rooms 22, 23 & 24 got to make their creative pies.

Year 7 students are exploring sculpture.

The Year 8 students have explored methods of creating 3D triangular shapes using sticks, card and cardboard. Next they explored other shapes, ideas and prototyped. And finally they were onto mading their final sculptures, which they are still making.

The second group have just about finished their time in the Food Technology Room.

The onset of Term 3 in the Fabrics room, signals the start of the Softie extravaganza!

Year 8 students have been working hard to complete a variety of projects. All students should have completed 3 outcomes by the end of the term. The emphasis has been on developing skills, working through the design and creation process to complete outcomes that they are proud of.

Balmacewen Intermediate had 4 teams entered in the Otago Daily Times Extra Current Events Quiz last week. The teams prepared well for the quiz - researching latest news, politics, flags and mapping skills. All 4 of our teams did very well and all placed in the top 8 out of the 50 + teams entered. Congratulations to Simon, Harry, Hannah, Nathan, Lauren, Emily, Charlie, Nicholas, Claudia, James, Thomas and Matthew.

Our Tournament of Minds team recently competed at the regional tournament in Christchurch. Read on to find out more about Tournament of Minds and to find out how they went at regionals.

Balmacewen entered three teams in this year's Sassenach tournament held on Wednesday 22nd August.

On Monday, Room 23 visited the Dunedin Art Gallery as part of our Impact topic this term.

On Wednesday 12th September Room's 7,8 and 14 completed a community service day as part of our Impact topic focusing on our impact on our planet. We spent the day in Ross Creek, Leith Valley and around Woodhaugh Gardens cleaning and collecting rubbish.

The Year 8 students have explored methods of creating 3D triangular shapes using sticks, card and cardboard. Next they explored other shapes, ideas and prototyped. Much problem solving and persevering have gone into creating their sculpyures.

Congratulations to Alexander, Sam, Oliver and Harrison who won the South Island Chess Championships over the weekend. They have now qualified for the Nationals. Well done boys.

On Wednesday 22nd August room 14 visited the Orokonui Ecosanctuary. The purpose of the trip was to find out more information about the Ecosanctuary and discover the positive impact it is having on our native plants and wildlife here in Dunedin.

Earlier this week Room 2 were lucky enough to head to the Dunedin Art Gallery.
