This term we covering and learning the following:
Literacy
Bible
How Jesus teaches us to show love and kindness, by turning sorrow into joy. Sharing our love for Jesus by being like him.
How 'The Fruits of the Spirit' demonstrate we are his children.
The true meaning of Christmas and how we can live knowing that our HOPE for eternity is God's plan for his people.
Reading
We are using Ready to read phonic plus books, as well and the colour wheel for those expert readers. All reading is to support our children with their letter/sound knowledge, to become fluent readers and attempt unknown words. Home learning will have a daily reader sent home daily to build confidence and reading for fluency and enjoyment.
Handwriting
We will be doing handwriting daily to build stamina in how to form letters correctly. It is important to get your child to practice writing their first name, and identifying the letters that make their name. We will be covering all the letters of the alphabet. Both Capitals and lower case.
Writing
This term we continue to retell stories of personal experiences as well as recount a story in their own words. We will also be covering persuasive by writing speeches 'An interesting fact about me', where children will write an interesting fact they would like to share about themselves with our class. We will research about a favourite animal to write a report about. This allows your child to be exposed to non-fiction writing.
Lastly we will look at poetic writing and have a weekly poem connected to letter/sound that they have covered or know. Looking to create poems that show gratitude for the change and progress they are making in their school and home life.
Numeracy
Mathematics
This term we are working on Number Identification and place value and fractions of numbers. Review addition and subtraction and equal sharing (division).
For strand we will cover Patterns -Transformation, and Statistics and Probability.
Science
This term we are looking at 'Heat & Energy'- the different types of heat from natural to man-made, and the different types of energy they produce and provide. How God in his creative power made our Sun to provide living things with heat.
Which leads us to also look at 'Energy & Forces' as part of our Theme of Conflict & Change.
Health & Physical Education
Health
We will be doing circle time as a class and covering Self-regulation and mindfulness to assist our children to understand their emotions.
Physical Education (P.E)
We are going to focus on target games and the skills of hitting and striking a ball with the hand and/or bat accurately . eg T-ball, hand ball.
Moving to passing and receiving a ball accurately. eg Football.
In the second part of the term we will be doing Athletics looking at track and field events.
Each day we will be having a 10-15 minute fitness or brain break for the enjoyment of movement and exercise.
Our whole school Sports days are Thursday starting with Jump Jam after morning tea at 10.45am, followed by P.E for our class.
Social Science
We will be covering how Tranportation has changed through the Centuries. How people use transportation has changed over time.
The Arts
Drama
Using our Bible stories to development skills and understanding of some basic elements of Drama.
Music
Daily Praise & Worship of giving God thanks to start the day.
Develop an appreciation of different types of Music from the Pacific and South America.
Visual arts
Creating art pieces with Pacific and South American themes, along with the basic skill of free-hand drawing using lines, and shapes.
Dance
Develop and create movement to music through the interpretation of waiata ringaringa in Kapa Haka, the Pacific and South American traditional/folkdance.
Home Learning
Home work be sent with daily readers next week, so please ensure your child brings their Homework book to school on tomorrow (Friday) to be given Homework on a Monday.
Homework needs to come back to school each Friday for marking and to be issued new homework the following week.
Important notices
Study ladder - Your child uses this website for educational purposes, to practice reading, maintenance for maths, and can receive certificates for completing set work.
Class dojo - I will be continuing to use this platform to communicate weekly and check this daily. So please continue to use this if you prefer as a form of communicating with me. Your child/ren can earn points for demonstrating our school values throughout the week, and you will be able to see this live as they are earned.
Water Bottles - We have designated area for water bottles in the classroom to ensure your child is hydrated throughout the day. This also ensures down time of leaving classroom for water is at a minimum. I will check daily and prompt that they take them home to wash.
