God counts the stars and calls them all by name Psalm 147:4
Welcome to Week 1 of Term 4. Room 2 are celebrating the gift that Jesus is and continuing to learn that we are all stars that can shine for Him.
For Encounter this term we cover three units that celebrate Jesus. Our overall theme is - My Jesus: Loving Gift Giver.
The sub-themes are: Jesus our gift giver, Jesus our loving gift and Gift wrapped friends are helpful and kind.
Our Integrated Studies theme this term is - Time and Space.
Room 2 will focus on the Solar system and the importance of our Great big sun. We begin our unit by exploring how we get 'Night and Day'. In pairs, we will construct a globe from paper mache to demonstrate how the earth rotates on its axis, resulting in night and day.
We began the term by preparing our earth model. Check out the video below.
Our Te Reo learning is linked to our Integrated Studies theme.
He aha te huarere (āhua ō te rangi) What is the weather like?
We continue to build on sentence structures and expand our thinking by learning the different seasons and moon phases in te reo.
For Math this term - We continue to focus on Number knowledge and number strategies. Our strand topic is geometry with the focus on transformation.
To start the term we took a dive into the "World of Maths" with Dr Pete. He facilitated a fun filled time that Room 2 & 3 immersed themselves in.
For Literacy we continue to decode words and comprehend different texts. Many of room 2 have now moved onto the NZ ready to read books. As a reminder, we began the year using the Phonics plus series which scaffolds learners through three stages. Kākano - seed, Tupu - seedling and then Māhuri - Sapling. These books help learners to build good reading skills that help as they progress through the Ready to read series.
Ready to read books have a colour wheel at the back of them.
We also continue to grow our writing skills and will focus on retell this term.
For Health & P.E we will explore and share about relationships with other people through (circle time). We continue to grow community in our class because we are gifts to others and Jesus helps us learn how to be good friends.
Room 2 have also enjoyed participating in 'Niue language week" and celebrating the unique culture that God has blessed others with.
Reminders & Notices:
Reminder that Labour Day is Monday (No school)
Next week Room 2 have Bricks for Kids on Tuesday. Please ensure your child is at school on time to engage in this exciting opportunity.
Head lice
With the warmer weather we have had a few itchy heads in room 2. The procedure for head lice is that if it is seen, your child will be sent to the office. At the office your childs' hair will be checked for any lice. If present, you will be contacted to pick up your child. This is to stop the spread of head lice in the class. We thank you for your co-operation with this.
