A new year in Tuakana Rima! Years 7&8s

Ms Mariana Lote —

Kia Ora whanau of Tuakana Rima (T.5) 🙏🏼 please read through this information of what your tamariki and I are going to be learning this term :)

Welcome back!

Praise God always because he is so good ❤ I hope that you all had a wonderful break over the holidays. I know it felt short but as always, we keep moving forward! Unfortunately, we couldn't have our tamariki back at school as scheduled but I pray that you enjoyed that extra time to spend with family and friends.

I am excited to see our tamariki back in our spaces and I'm more excited that we get to see new faces joining us too!

Our vision for this term is: Togetherness - Identity and Belonging. This vision and theme will be woven into each topic we do over the term.

Here's what our tamariki and I are going to be learning over the term:

Bible

As always we start the day with worship which includes devotion time and our daily prayer.

T.5 and I are going to study and grow as we seek God together 🙏🏼 over the term we will be covering these units;

Seeing Jesus 7.6 - We are learning to see Jesus for Who He really is

Transforming Whoever 7.7 - We are learning to see what Jesus’ transformation can look like in people’s lives.

Jesus Calms the Storm 7.8 - We are learning to discover how God transforms our lives in and through stormy times.

In week 5 will be our Week of Worship with our school chaplain Pr Ama.

Our strand for maths this term will be Measurement - using appropriate scales, devices, and metric units for length, area, volume and capacity, weight (mass), temperature, angle, and time.

Literacy - Reading & Writing

T.5 and I will look at Information report and bits of Persuasive Writing this term. We will also be learning about language features - what makes our writing rich!

For reading our tamariki will be focussing on non-fiction texts. This will help them with their Social Studies topic as well. We'll also focus on TV advertisements, creating visual posters for key themes as well as increasing our reading comprehension skills.

Social Studies and Te Reo Maori

We will be learning Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Places & Spaces (Geography), Identity and Tourism and will also be planning and preparing for our Cultural Expo too!

I do want to engage and push our Te Reo Maori in T.5 and we will be making skits and short plays in the language of Te Reo.

Sports & Health

Sports will be taught by Mr T every Thursday. Mr T will go through different sports each week, focussing on ball drills and skills. Because there is Athletics day later on in the term, T.5 will also be doing some field and track events practise which includes; shot put, discuss, long jump and lots of running!

Please remember that Thursdays are our sports days T.5!

We'll also be focussing on Health and Well-being, we will be getting visitors to come into school to talk about our tamarikis health and well-being too. I will be emailing when this will be happening closer to the date.

Technology
