Survival, Lenses, and Rocks?
2022 is off to a great start as Room 4 students hit the ground running with their learning. Our adventure begins with a shipwreck, the 4 lenses of the Bible, and a rock garden...
In Bible, we explored the survival story of Earnest Shackleton whose inspirational leadership and survival plan lead to the rescue of all his crew after their ship "The Endurance" sank in Antartica. Students built lifeboats, salvaged things they need to survive with, built shelter and created survival plans to "experience" a situation where they need saving. Through this, they encountered Jesus as our life's captain whose grace provides, protects and saves us from our sin.
In our inquiry about Creation, Fall, Redemption and Restoration, students reflected on what each lens means and wrote to explain their understanding.
Room 4 has been busy creating visual art collaboratively. We understand that if each individual does our part, we contribute to a big picture that can impact the world in a more powerful way. Each child has contributed to the world map (picture above) made of 21 seperate pieces and beautifully designed rocks painted with acrylic. The rocks will become an artistic component of our class garden.
For Literacy, we are developing a love for reading and writing! Our ramped up library and online reading resources have provided hours of reading enjoyment. Year 5 students have started using Google Docs to publish their recounts about their summer holidays. We were also glad to have Mrs Parlane's special appearance as a Bible Storyteller in Week 2.
Meet George, our class plant expert. He is leading a team to design, plan, and guide us on how to plant a vegetable garden. For show and tell, George shared some interesting information about his carnivorous plant.
Room 4 takes health and safety seriously. Thank you parents for sending healthy, happy children to school! We look forward to an amazing, uninterrupted learning journey this term.
