I am so Glad that Jesus Loves Me!
Thank you Lord for your blessings in our classroom of 23. Continue to be with us till the end of term. Have a look through of what we've been up to here in Tuakana Rima :)
Malo e lelei family
Week 8 already?! This term Tuakana Rima and I have faced challenges and shared some A-HA moments together. Lots of awesome learning has taken place over the term and we praise God for his wonderful love for protecting us over the term.
I personally would like to thank you parents for raising such wonderful children, I returned back to work this week and I’ve been blessed. It’s been a tough couple of weeks for me but Tuakana have been warm and caring. Thank you, parents, for your patience and kindness, I pray for more blessings upon you and your family.
Here’s what we’ve been up to over the past few weeks:
Bible
During the week of worship (week 5), our theme was Agent of Change! It was awesome to see our prefects especially as they got to share the message with our school - well-done girls! I was also really proud of Tuakana Rima because they got to share their special item through song! We sang a mash-up of Jesus Loves Even Me and Everybody Ought to Know! 2 Classics that they performed really well.
Over the few weeks, Tuakana Rima was to dive into their bibles and read about the Patriarchs. This was some of the learning they did online:
Literacy
Looking through the images and the Facebook updates, it was awesome to see our tamariki involved during Book Week! I strongly encourage our tamariki to keep reading, don’t read because your parent or teacher told you so, but read for leisure. This will be a good habit for them as they grow. Reading keeps the mind going.
We have also been concentrating on Persuasive Writing. We focused on the idea of how to write a short punchy piece of persuasive writing, our tamariki got to do this over the topic of ranking the best biscuits in Aotearoa. This was awesome to see them build their knowledge each week and see their opinion of which is the top biscuit in New Zealand… 100s & 1000s seems to be Tuakana Rimas favourite it seems!
Maths
Multiplication! Some of us are quite the experts at long multiplication now. We’ve been concentrating on how to multiply large numbers. I’m happy with most of Tuakana Rimas progress and I strongly encourage parents to test our children’s knowledge of how to do so!
Science
This term our main focus was here! Tuakana Rima focussed on simple machines and how they work. We were blessed to have some science experts from MOTAT earlier on in the term who came in and developed our tamarikis understanding of how each simple machine works; ramps, wheel and axles, wedges, lever, and pulleys. We were really blessed to have our own Scientist and expo who were teaching us - Mrs Ryu! We learned how to write and plan through the Scientific Method. This is good practise especially for our tuakanas as they prepare for high school in the upcoming years. Awesome learning Tuakana Rima.
Specialists classes & Technology
You may have seen the updates on our Facebook page but our tamariki have been continuing their learning outside of BSDA and travelling to Wesley Intermediate for specialist classes. Their classes this term are STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and Performing Arts. Each time they return from their classes they come back with lots of new learning and are excited to share during sharing time. In STEM they’re able to build and create different projects, such as last week they had to design and build a windmill! In Performing Arts they get to develop their musical skills and learn different instruments as well as build their confidence in acting! Well done Tuakana Rima.
