Assessment and Reporting

Balmoral SDA School —

Kaiako (Teachers) are happy to discuss your child’s progress at any convenient time as part of reporting.

It is helpful to Kaiako (teachers) if they can discuss your child when they are not busy setting up for the day. After school is a more convenient time for an informal chat or sharing of information.

Should you wish to discuss specific aspects of your child’s schooling it is best to make an appointment so that time can be set aside to do this effectively. This can be done with the Kaiako or through the school office. Alternatively email communications are checked regularly by our Kaiako (teachers).

Reporting to parents happens in the following ways:

Partnership Conference will be held for parents of Years 1 - 8 in Term 1, after the teacher has completed initial entry testing and classroom observations. The teacher will share current assessments, discuss and suggest ways you can support your child’s learning at home. The ākonga will share their learner profile and learning goals.

Correspondence will be emailed during checkpoint weeks for parents of Years 1 - 8 target groups to capture and build on the 'WOW' moments in their child's learning based on the individual goal/s and/or school goal/s.

End of Year Written Report will be handed out towards the end of Term 4 for ALL students from Years 1 - 8. This will be a summary of students progress and achievement in relation to New Zealand curriculum expectations.

Learning EXPOs will be held throughout the school year showcasing individual/group projects that your child has created linked to our school learning themes. This is an opportunity to empower our ākonga to share their learning with their respective families and our school community.

Communication between home and school is an important factor in your child’s progress. Please keep in touch with your child's Kaiako (teacher) if you have questions or concerns. They should always be your initial point of contact in the first instance.
