Healthy Harbour Watch

Bayfield High School —

A group of Bayfield students from year 13 and year 9 attended a training day last Friday to learn how to sample our Otago harbour and analyse the samples for a number of chemical and biological pollutants, the purpose being to monitor the health of our environment.

On the Saturday a number of the students spent the morning sampling sites in the inlet adjacent to Bayfield High School and the afternoon analysing these samples in the Mellor laboratories in the Chemistry department of Otago University. Our year 13 students involved are Zoie Gallego, Kaela Freeland, Shaku Jawahar Moogambikai, Keri Ramsaroop and Luka Reusch. Our environmentally aware year 9 students are Madeline Hage-Sleiman, Annie Wagner, Danny Mills and Jackson Surline. Thank you to the back office team of supporting parents helping with safety and transport.
