Office (Bishopdale School) —

Kia ora e te Whānau

Ko te reo kia tika, ko te reo kia rere, ko te reo kia Māori!

Get the reo right, let the reo fly, make the reo normal!

So here we are back into Term 3 already.  Once we settled into school on Monday we have had a good start to the term.

We have a few reminders for the tamariki:-

1.      Uniform is expected to be worn including black shoes, and the uniform fleece.  Layers can be worn underneath but we ask that these are not visible.

2.      Tackle rugby is not allowed to be played at school.   We allow just about every other game but there always seem to be disagreements during tackle that escalate the game into physical violence – therefore, it’s a hard no.

3.      We love our tamariki to come to school with a positive attitude – no one but them can put this into action!!

Student Leaders

We are ready to appoint our Student Leaders for 2024.  This has taken some time to settle down with the Year 6s this year – therefore this is very late in the piece.  We believe this group is ready to step up to this extra responsibility and be consistently good role models.  The following have been chosen:-

Dulayn Herath-Mudiyanselage, Sanuli Kotte Acharige, Ryder Meredith, Josiah Masoe, Oriwa Cooper, Sefearah Cooper, Meera Lamba, and Ella Whyte.

Swimming

Swimming is on for 2 weeks this term.  All children must go as it’s part of our curriculum.  The notices went home earlier this week already so if you haven’t seen yours then please ask at the office.    Also, please be aware that this costs $25 per student so send this money back with your notice or pay online (school bank account number is 03-0855 0436870 00 with your child’s name as the reference).  This is a cost of less than $3 per lesson – a bargain.

We really value parents who can come and help during swimming.  It’s a busy time for us with a total disruption of our normal routine so the more support we have the easier it is.  You will be asked to help with lining children up, looking after them with others while the last children get changed, finding the last items of clothing that children can’t seem to find, etc.  Thanks for your support.

Enrolments

If you have younger siblings that you are planning on sending to Bishopdale School then please make sure that you are enrolling them at the office.  We are pretty much at capacity now and need to consider how many out of zones we accept.  If you are not sure whether we know of your younger children then please ring the office to check.

Teachers Study

We have a group of six teachers who are doing extra study every Wednesday afternoon.  This is part of the literacy training for Year 0 – 3 teachers.  Please be aware that this study is done on line and teachers will be leaving school promptly to do this at home.

Teacher/Parent Conferences

We have these meetings coming up on August 6th and 8th.  They will be held over two days on Tuesday and Thursday after school.  Please make a time using the link that is provided. We expect to see all parents and their tamariki.  Funnily enough sometimes parents don’t feel there’s the need but we value being able to communicate what’s happening at school with  your child.

Welcome

We welcome Mrs Jade Gooding who is going to be working Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning in Koromiko.  This is to allow Mrs Leanne Oldfield, Deputy Principal, time out of the classroom to do extra tasks.  Jade is an experienced teacher who has spent time recently working in ECE so we are excited for her to bring this strength to our kura.

Relieving Teachers

This term every teacher in New Zealand gets an extra release day per term.  This means that teachers now have 4 days out of class per term.  They use these days to assess individual students, meet with other agencies about students, and generally do tasks that can’t be done in classtime.   Luckily we have some ex staff who relieve for us – Mrs Branch, Ms Blomfield and Mrs Pepperle are our ‘permanent’ relievers.

Welcome to New Students

We would like to welcome 2 new students to our school, Ridwaan Ashenafi and Lexi Humphries, who have both joined us in Kōwhai.

Newsletter Competition

The question for the week is:-

Who is the new teacher in Koromiko?
