Office (Bishopdale School) —

Kia ora koutou

Hā ki roto, Hā ki waho. Kia tau te mauri e kokiri nei i ngā piki me ngā heke, Ko te rangimarie tāku e rapu nei. Tihei mauri ora.

Breathe in, Breathe out. Settle the Mauri that stirs inside of me through the ups and downs. It is peace that I seek.

We’re into Week 2 already. It’s great to see so many of you coming into school now. Remember, as long as you are wearing a mask we welcome you to come in.

School Events

We are starting to pick up our ‘usual’ commitments that we have had to let go due to Covid. Cross Country is on next week – more details later – and you are welcome to come and watch and support your children. We are also practising a School Dance that will be videoed for a national Dance competition by drone. This is being organised as part of our Healthy Active Learning programme by Miss McGowan.

Our Boys Club – for selected students – are going out on a trip to Papanui Youth Trust today. This is in their usual time slot and they are very excited to be selected to go. This programme is at a significant cost to the school so if your child is one to go, please make sure they appreciate it.

This week is Road Safety Week and there is a presentation on for Year 3 and 4 students in the library this morning. We are very lucky to have them visit and we look forward to photos later.

Next week is Bully Free Week and it’s always good to have a specific focus as we are always aware of this. On Friday (20th May) we are encouraging students to wear mufti with a Pink theme as this is the national day of recognition. Why pink? To show that each student has the resiliency to be different in their own way.

Senior Sport will be starting for selected children in a few weeks.

Parent/Teacher Meetings

Most importantly, we have time for you to come and have an individual meeting with your child’s teacher. This is being held on 23 and 24 May. We will be closing school at 1.30pm on Monday to enable us to fit everyone in for their interview. Booking times can be made on-line at https://www.schoolinterviews.co.nz/code/nxwf7 or come in/ring and make a time with Penny. Each session is 15 minutes long – if you feel you need longer then please let Penny know and we will try and fit you in. Once you make a commitment to that time then please make sure you remember as teachers will be waiting for you.

Nits

Nits are about through the school at the moment. We have treatments available at school if you need this. We have a lot of girls wearing their hair loose at present. I would strongly recommend that all long hair is tied up. We will be asking students to do this if they have long hair.

Pizza Party/Wheels

This is being held tomorrow for all those students who have more than 40 Care Cards. While I can appreciate that some have been away with Covid, most seem able to have achieved this with over 100 students in this category. It is particularly busy this time as we were unable to hold this last term due to being at Red Level.

Their names are listed below for you to check. There will be another Pizza Party held later this term.
