Congratulations to this week's Stars of the Week, who are:

Ava-Marie Coates in Tī-Kōuka

In her swimming lessons, Ava has been learning to blow bubbles in the water and to float like a starfish, she is really enjoying her lessons.  Back in class she enjoys drawing and practising writing her numbers and letters.  When Mrs Mac uses the tannoy system at school, Ava finds it fascinating that her voice comes out of the speaker in the ceiling.

Faith Rawiri-Hicks in Mataī

Faith said the swimming lessons are good and she is learning to swim using a float or a noodle.  Back in class she is learning maths.  She is also in Mr So's reading group, but said she would like to be back in Ti-Kouka class.

Leilani Wilson in Kōwhai

Leilani said she is learning to swim during the lessons at the pool.  In her group they are teaching the children to go under water to retrieve an object, but she doesn't like going under water so she uses her feet to retrieve it.  She prefers it when they have to kick their legs when they are on top of the water.  She said she sometimes misses pre-school.

Jackson Patterson in Koromiko

Jackson said the swimming lessons are good and he is learning to go under water and to float on top.  In class he has been busy learning maths and writing, and said he enjoys using his imagination to write great stories.  Jackson said he is really looking forward to the school disco coming up in a couple of weeks and that it has been quite a while since the last one.

Ruby Marsh in Kānuka

Ruby has been learning to hold her breath under water during her swimming lessons, and also to swim underwater.   She said swimming lessons are the best thing she has done at school lately, although she does enjoy maths lessons.  When she grows up she would like to swim in the Olympics.

Kaleb Singh in Kahikatea

Kaleb has been practising floating on his back and front at the pool, and also how to use a diving motion to start swimming when standing in the pool.  At the moment he has a bit of travelling to do to get to school as he is staying at his aunty's with his Mum as they are helping his aunty who is expecting a baby soon.  In class he has been learning about different zones of behaviour, and recently Kaleb said he really enjoyed learning about Matariki.  

Kiwa Kutia in Tōtara

Kiwa has been having swimming lessons with the school for quite a few years and can already swim.   In his lessons he has been practising going under water to retrieve objects from the bottom of the pool.  He said the best thing about coming back to school afterwards is having morning tea as you get quite hungry.  Kiwa is looking forward to the disco in a couple of weeks time, which is a treat for the whole school for good behaviour during breaktimes.
