Kia ora e te Whānau
Mā pango mā whero ka oti ai te mahi
With red and with black the work will be complete
We have made it through to the end of term – the whole 11 weeks bar a few days for public holidays. It’s been a long term but we have had lots of successes. Our behaviour is smoothing out, we have 101 students coming to the Pizza Party today which means they have over 40 Care Cards. It’s great we can celebrate together. We also have gained our first whole school reward and enjoyed sausages and chips together a couple of weeks ago. Surprisingly, we have also nearly achieved our next whole school reward which is going to be a digi day – this will either be later this week on short notice or very early next term.
Next term we have lots of exciting things happening:-
· Year 6 Camp
· Elephant Park/Ōrauwhata Visit (Bishopdale Library)
· Science Week – in school
· Art Week
· Matariki
· Cross Country
· Bully Free Week
· St Johns First Aid Training – Whole school
· Reading Together Parent training
· Pasifika weekly
· Our Education Review Office visit
· And all of our routines that we have now.
Parent Volunteers
We thank the parents who are coming into school to help out. If there’s anyone else who would like to help out particularly with our lunch duties, please let us know. This definitely stretches staff capability so teachers have time to have their lunch and also go out on duty – teachers only have a 15 minute break when they are on duty – which is most days. You would be out with 2 teachers supporting them rather than having to control behaviour! You could even give out our purple counters for recognising good behaviour.
Pasifika
We are employing Pasifika tutors to come in on a Thursday for an hour starting next term. This will not be offered to all students but will be for those that identify with Pasifika or who are genuinely interested – even if they are not Pasifika themselves. There will be a separate notice coming home about this for you to return to let us know that you are interested but otherwise just ring us and let us know.
Enrolments
We are having a lot of enrolments at the moment. Please be aware of this as we will be ‘full’ before the end of the year. If you have a preschooler or know someone who is thinking of joining us then please enrol sooner rather than later. If you are in our zone we need to automatically accept you but we will be limiting out of zones.
Staff Car Park
This is not to be used for drop offs or pick ups before and after school. It’s dangerous to drop off there when it’s used for our courier deliveries, teacher parking, etc. It’s also tricky to get in and out onto the main road. Our gate is usually shut during this time – if it’s open it’s for a reason.
Welcome to New Students
We would like to welcome 2 new students to our school, Nuwayla Ali in Kōwhai and Peni Delaibatiki in Tōtara.
Newsletter Competition
The question for the week is:-
What National holiday is on during the holidays?
Write your answer on a piece of paper, named, and pop it in the kete in the office – 3 Care Cards for Juniors, 3 Care Cards for Seniors.
The winners last week were Sanuli Kotte Acharige and Maddie Wanhalla.
