Welcome back to another week. Camp for the Year 6s is now over and we move on to Winter Sport which is starting tomorrow afternoon for the Year 5 and 6s. We have 2 netball teams and a soccer team taking part. We appreciate all the work that Mrs Harriet Gourlay (Tōtara Teacher) has put into organising this. We also thank Liz Pepperle, Coralie Davis and Phil Law for coaching the teams. We couldn’t do it without coaches and organisers and we realise this adds an extra commitment to busy lives.

Just a friendly reminder that we have a Teacher Only Day this Friday so there are no children on site. This day was given to us by the Government and it is a common day between our Kahui Ako – local schools. We are using the day to meet about a new behaviour idea, looking at our local school curriculum, and future planning. Rest assured that we will be busy.

Please remember to make sure your children are dressing appropriately for the school day. We have a number of children turning up with no fleece on a cold morning (although I also know some children don’t feel the cold). As the day warms up they are then taking their warm layers off so make sure your child’s gear is also named.

Crusaders Visit

We are lucky enough to have a group of Crusaders players visit us this afternoon. There is a group of 30 students who are going to meet with them, play games, and have a chance to ask questions. Some of our keen rugby players are missing out as the Year 5 and 6 Cross Country zones are on at the same time. We don’t get a choice with the date the Crusaders are available.

Lockdown Practice

Within the next week we will be holding a Lockdown Practice. If your child comes home talking about being in ‘lockdown’ then please know this is just a practice. I realise this can be triggering for some students but it’s a safety situation. We will send a group text home on the day so you also know. It’s important for us to know that, should we need to go into lockdown, everyone knows what to do and where to go to stay safe.

Matariki Night

We will be holding our Matariki night on June 25 – Tuesday night. Please keep this evening free to come along. We will be having performances from our Junior and Senior Kapa Haka groups as well as kai and korero. We have decided on Tuesday night as other local schools are holding their evening on different days that same week. Of course, there is a Matariki holiday on the Friday.

St John’s Visit – Whole School

We are hosting St John’s First Aiders next Wednesday and Thursday. They work with each class over the two days teaching them how to give basic first aid. We have had them visit before and the children always learn lots and seem to enjoy the sessions.

Pink Shirt Day

Thank you to everyone who supported Pink Shirt Day last Friday.  We raised $133.00 which will be donated to the Pink Shirt Day Anti Bullying Campaign.

Welcome to New Students

Attendance

Last week the voucher was won by Johnny Matthews.  He won a Kmart voucher.

The class with the highest attendance wins an Ice Pop each from Mrs Mac. Last week this was won by Tōtara.
