What an amazing effort for our Gate Activation this morning. Thanks for the input in decorating the children’s bikes and scooters. I was so impressed as the kids wheeled along toward me. We also had a bike that generated power to make a blender work to make smoothies – sounds complicated but it worked. The whole event was so good and we’ll repeat it again later in the year. Karma Tamarapa, Ayla Standen, Tyree McCausland-Ellwood and Hayley Kremers won pool passes for the best decorated bike/scooter.
Pink Shirt Day
Now that today is done we have another event on Friday with Pink Shirt Day, when we will be participating in celebrations supporting our school to be a safe, supportive, welcoming and inclusive place for everyone. On Friday 16th May we will be having a non-uniform day and encouraging the kids to wear pink. Please bring a gold coin donation to the office which will be donated towards Pink Shirt Day.
Attendance
We are doing well with attendance for this stage of the year. We can always do better though. It’s not good that we are sitting on 54% of our students with regular attendance which is the same as last year. I’d like us, as a school, to aim for more than 60% to start and then build up from there.
Last week the voucher was won by Octavia MacDonald for being at school every day and on time. She won a Kmart voucher.
Kahikatea won the class attendance for having the highest percentage attending for the week.
Another Reminder Teacher Only Day – Friday 30 May. School will be closed for students.
School Cross Country
The students participated brilliantly in the School Cross Country on Monday. We had to postpone it from Friday. Huge thanks to Mrs Gourlay who made it such a success with her organisation. Thanks, too, for the parents and caregivers who turned up to watch.
Wednesday Challenge
The winning class this week who had most students getting to school by their own ‘steam’ is Kahikatea.

Newsletter Competition
The question is what is Pink Shirt Day raising money for?
This is worth 3 Care Cards this week.
As always, write your answer on a piece of paper, name it, and place it in the kete in the office. One entry per child. This is worth 3 Care Cards each for the Junior and Senior winner – and a lollipop.
This will be drawn at random from the kete on Friday morning. Last week this was won by Lexus Carmichael and Anaayajot Randhawa.
