Success for Bluestone at the South Canterbury Sanford Science and Technology Fair.

Karyn Grace —

Bluestone School Science Fair entries were among some of the best at the recent South Canterbury Science Fair.

As you will probably be aware, we have recently held the Bluestone Year 7 and 8 Science Fair in the Think Tank pod. From this, ten entries were chosen to represent our school at the South Canterbury Science Fair which was held on the 12th and 13th of September at the Caroline Bay Hall.

From the ten entries, Bluestone gained a gold, 2 silver and a bronze award.  The recipients of these were:

Aleigha Darling and Neve Albert - Gold award Year 7 Team.

"Does talking and texting affect your concentration."

Amy Ellis and Briana Grace - Silver award Year 8 Team.

"Are childproof containers really childproof?"

Adam Lindbom - Silver award Year 8 individual.

"How much sugar is in Coke from popular takeaway outlets."

Lucy-Mae Taylor - Bronze award Year 8 individual.

"What is the best household tool to grow crystals on."

Science fair work has proven very popular among our senior students and is a true inquiry approach, in which students find a topic that interests them, and then design a fair test to investigate this.  Some of the feedback from our Science Fair entrants was:

"The Science Fair was an education experience for science lovers.  In my opinion all the projects were fascinating and interesting.  I would love to go once more."  Lucy Mae Taylor.

"The Science fair competition was a fun experience and it was great to learn about different areas of Science.  I would definitely go again and I will try and enter into the competition another time. - Adam Lindbom

Congratulations to these students on your success!
