Enrolments

Bluestone School —

All you need to know about our enrolment scheme, enrolling your child at Bluestone or at High School.

BLUESTONE SCHOOL ENROLMENT SCHEME

Bluestone School has an enrolment scheme to manage our roll numbers and avoid overcrowding. You can view our enrolment zone at the school office or on the map below.

If you live within zone your child is welcome to enrol at Bluestone anytime. If you live outside the zone your child will only be able to enrol at Bluestone if there are spaces available. Each term the number of out of zone enrolments are advertised and if enrolment requests for out of zone students exceeds the number of places available a ballot is held. Full details are available at our office.  All out of zone applications must meet the date timelines and book and appointment time with our Principal Darren Smith. Below is a copy of the enrolment scheme zone map.

If you would like to have a look at our facilities and discuss the enrolment of your child then we encourage you to contact our Office on 03 684 3706 and to speak to Julie or Lindsay to make a time for a tour of the school with Darren Smith, Bluestone's Principal.

Applications for out of zone places are called for each term.  The exact number of places will depend on the number of applications received from students who live within the school’s home zone. The year group spaces available also depend on the current roll numbers.

Preschool Pre-visit & Enrolment

Transition visits - Pre school children will attend 3 pre school visits prior to starting school.  These are 3 weeks before your child is due to start at Bluestone.

After you have enrolled your child you will be sent a letter via email with the dates for these visits. If for any reason you do not receive this letter please contact the school office for details. If possible it is better if younger siblings are not brought to these sessions.

This is to introduce your child to the school, the class they will begin in and the teacher. Parents are most welcome to join us at this time.

Parents enrolling children should make an appointment with the Principal prior to the visits. Please make contact with the school office 684 3706.

New entrants may be enrolled before their fifth birthday, but cannot legally attend school before that date.

A parent is required to show the Certificate of Birth before a child can be enrolled. This can be obtained from the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages. A certificate showing immunisations completed should also be brought to the enrolment for viewing. If you are enrolling an in zone student you will need to bring proof of in zone address - this could be a sale of house agreement, a rental lease agreement, a TDC rates notice, or an electricity account.

Moving to a New School

If your child is moving to new school please inform the class teacher so that arrangements can be made to forward the necessary information to the next school. This will also allow us to gather up your child's belongings and the books etc. belonging to Bluestone School.

When a child enters a new school the Principal sends to this previous school for the official school records.

Enrolment at Secondary School

Both Year 8 students and their parents are given the opportunity to visit secondary schools in the Timaru area to familiarise themselves with the new school, its buildings, teaching programmes and environs, before enrolling.

Secondary schools are given year 8 contact details to enable them to invite parents and students to visit the secondary schools.
