PMP - Perceptual Motor Programme

Corinna Brook —

"Your kids need to move, and today it’s more important than ever" Gill Connel (Founder of Moving Smart which specialises in the foundations of learning through movement and play.)

The Te Tahi team LOVES going to PMP three afternoons a week.  At PMP the students rotate around a variety of activities (which change regularly) aimed at improving balance, co-ordination, muscle strength, posture, flexibility, gross motor skills, eye-tracking and agility.  It's a lot of fun!

Rolling, crawling, skipping, and jumping, along with a variety of other movement activities, build the brain during the first years of a child's life.  These activities also increases confidence, social skills and a sense of achievement.

Student speak:

Scarlett says "I like using the scooters outside".

Manraj says "I like the balance board because it is fun.  It is rocky."

Paizley says "The crazy catch is easy."

Emilia says "I love the dizzy giddy.  I love going round and round and round."

Hunter says "I can climb up the ladder and go onto the blocks to jump off.  I land like a motorbike!"

Hildred says "I like the hula hoops.  You put it around your back and move it around."

Ameilia says "I like stepping on the stepping stones."

Piper says "I like the crazy catch because you get to throw the ball."

Pavel says "I can go fast across the stepping stones."

Kaizen says "I can push the ball.  I like hockey."

Niklaus says "I can move the hula hoops around my hips and over my shoulders."

Tama says "I can surf on the rocking board and I can rock around."
