St Johns - Safety at home
Team Te Tahi and Creative Creatures are learning about Home Safety.
The junior block have been lucky enough to have a class session with Megan from St John to learn about how to be safe at home.
Each class is having a 45 minute session. The objectives of this session are to recognise an emergency situation and know how to get help by ringing 111, recognise the danger of falls and poisons, how to avoid injuries, identify potential risks at home and at school and explore making safe decisions.
We asked some students in Room 6 what they learnt...
Mason - Wires that are poking out on cords are not safe because if you touch them you might get an electric shock.
Nahlia - If someone is on their back and they vomit they might choke.
Travis - If there is a fire you need to ring 111, and ask for the fire brigade.
Kayleigh - You need be careful doing flips on the trampoline, because you might break your neck.
Spencer - If broken glass or plates are left around we could get cut or choke.
Evie - If you leave toys lying around people might trip over and hurt themselves.
Sophie - Don't touch fires or you could get burnt, also don't touch matches or lighters.
Kaylani - Poisons can be dangerous and we shouldn't put them on our mouth.
Travis - We need to be careful climbing trees, we might fall out.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their session and already had a lot of knowledge about hazards. Ka pai tamariki! Thank you St John.
